OKAY, TIME TO GET SERIOUS!

Here's the last post of Inktober! I'm glad I did it. I didn't create any masterpieces, but I got back into drawing and that's a good thing.

I won't be posting daily anymore, but I will try to keep it semi regular. I have a few projects in the works that I have to get serious about. Hope to share more about those in the near future.

I've got nothing....

I couldn't think of a title for this post.  I just thought the blog needed a dinosaur. So there you go.

I used some Jurassic Park production photos for reference.

Star Wars Legends: THE LITTLE LOST BANTHA CUB

The Little Lost Bantha Cub is a children's story that appears in Kevin J. Anderson's Jedi Academy Trilogy ( I forget which book and can't seem to find that info online). You can read the text as it appears in the book here. Anderson apparently completed it and that text is here. I can't believe this was never made into an actual children's book.

MAN OF STEEL

This isn't what I had originally planned for Inktober 21st, but I'm tired and wanted to get something out quick. My other idea was more involved. It's still coming and I think it will bring a smile to hardcore Star Wars fans.

Anyway, like my Wonder Woman post, this version of Superman is based on Darwyn Cooke's design (which itself is based on Superman's old costume).

Sleeping Beauty

#Inktober 16th. A request from my daughter. Well, sort of. She asked for Aurora and I got this image in my head. It might be too scary for her, so I may be drawing another.

I used screencaps from the movie as references.

KIRBY CHARACTERS: Mister Miracle and Big Barda

#Inktober 15th was a busy day so I had to do this quick to get it in. Loose drawing and straight to inking with a black Pentel Color Brush. Starting to play around with a more "cartoony" style.

Mister Miracle and Big Barda were created by Jack Kirby for DC Comics. Their first appearances were in Mister Miracle #1 and Mister Miracle #4 (1971)

LEX LUTHOR

Lex Luthor (based on Clancy Brown)
There were two things that really bothered me about Batman v Superman. One was that the two cities were across the river from each other. That really annoyed me. Is the DC cinematic universe really that small? Are we going to find out that Atlantis is located IN that river? Maybe I'm letting it bother me too much. Did it bother any of you?

The othet thing was Lex Luthor. I won't go into a full critique of Eisenberg's Luthor, but I hated him. That was not Lex Luthor to me. I don't even think I can sit through that movie again because of that Luthor--and I was a fan of Man of Steel!

Anyway, if it had been up to me, I would have cast Clancy Brown. Despite small roles and a lot of voice acting (including the animated Lex), he's a capable actor. His booming voice alone would carry the role. Seriously, why don't they put me in charge of this stuff?!!!

Today's #Inktober drawing is based on his likeness. Well, it's supposed to be. It was a little tricky. Clancy Brown usually has a very full head of hair and a goatee these days. I may try this again when I have a little more time.

BATMAN REDESIGN

Ninja Batman
From #Inktober 12th. Yesterday was a long day, so I had to do a quicky. I guess I'm on a Batman kick. This time I wanted to try a redesign.

KIRBY CHARACTERS: Magneto (and a Sentinel)

Magneto and a Sentinel. Ink on bristol board, 8x10
Here's another Magneto drawing. I'm planning a larger project that features Magneto, so you may see more of him here.

Here's the last post with info on Magneto. And the Sentinels were also created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby for Marvel Comics. Their first appearance was in X-Men #14 (1965).

Star Wars Classic: 2-1B SURGICAL DROID

2-1B. Ink on bristol board, 8x10.
This one was done with a Pentel Black Color Brush Pen. I didn't care for it too much at first, but once the ink got flowing it was pretty nice to work with. I think I prefer the Pentel Pocket Bush Pen to the Color Brush Pen so far.

SUPERMAN

Superman. Ink on bristol board, 8x10.
Here's another character that was missing from this blog. I'm not completely happy with this piece, so I'm sure I'll tackle Superman again in the future. The other day I said I'm using #Inktober to practice inking with different tools and techniques. This was done completely with a Micron brush pen. I've never used it to complete a drawing before and it did have a different feel from other brush pens. Maybe I'll do a brief review the pens I used at the end of #Inktober.

TALAUNA

Talauna. Ink on bristol board, 5x7.
I haven't posted any art for Bid the Gods Arise in a while, but it's still in the works. I'm kind of going back to the drawing board for this project, so #Inktober is a good time to work on it.

SPIDER-MAN

Spider-Man. India ink on bristol board, 8x10.
#Inktober 2nd. I noticed that the blog was deficient in Spider-Man. That is rectified now.

I'm using #Inktober to practice with different tools and techniques, so there will be varied looks from day to day.

Star Wars Classic: HAN SOLO (HOTH)

Han Solo (Hoth). Ink on bristol board, 5x7,
Here's my kickoff in my attempt to participate in #Inktober. As I said in my last post, I'm not going with any theme, rather, just continuing with my usual subjects. I am taking requests this month, though. So if you'd like to see me draw something just let me know.

This piece will be up for bid for a time here: http://www.ebay.com/usr/lynmiclyn

Kirby Characters: Magneto

Magneto. India ink on paper, 5 x 7,
I'm trying to get back into the swing of drawing and posting more regularly. I'm going to kickstart my return to drawing/posting with #Inktober, so stay tuned--a lot (hopefully) coming.

I'm going to continue some of the series I had going before. So this post continues Kirby Characters. Star Wars will be back. The blog is light on classic DC characters, so I'm planning on featuring them. And I'll be sharing more stuff from my project with Robert Mullin.

Here's a Magneto sketch based on Kirby's earliest version.

Magneto was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby for Marvel Comics. His first appearance was in The X-Men #1 (1963).

This sketch will be up for bid for a while here: http://www.ebay.com/usr/lynmiclyn

A House in Oil

It's been a while since I posted. Here's a commission I did for someone who wanted to give it as Christmas present.

Oil on canvas, 16 x 20.

I'm working on  another commission right now that is nothing like this one. It's one that will fit quite nicely on this blog. :)
